ARCHDIOCESE OF TORONTO
January 12, 2009
Dear Fathers,
We will soon be celebrating in our archdiocese an unprecedented and historical event: the official opening of the Diocesan Inquiry concerning the cause of canonization of Sr. Carmelina of the Cross (Carmelina Tarantino).
This cause, given the nihil obstat of the Holy See in September 2008, is now at the stage of the informative process, in order to ascertain this servant of God’s reputation as a woman known for her holiness. The canonical process of beatification at the diocesan phase falls under the jurisdiction of the Archbishop of Toronto since Sr. Carmelina died in Toronto.
It is with great pride that we invite all the faithful of the Archdiocese to share our joy and that of the Passionist Sisters, and to participate in a Solemn Mass to be celebrated at St. Paschal Baylon Parish on Saturday, March 21 at 10:00 a.m. Together we shall implore the Holy Spirit for the success of this Diocesan Inquiry.
All the priests of the diocese who wish to do so, are invited to concelebrate at this Eucharist when the members of the diocesan Tribunal will receive their respective mandates. If you plan to attend this Mass, please notify Deacon Joe DiGrado (jocadigrado@yahoo.ca) or my office (416-934-3400, ext. 609).
As well, I ask that you notify your parishioners concerning the above mentioned Eucharistic celebration and of the official opening of the diocesan phase of the beatification of Suor Carmelina through your bulletin or by posting this letter.
May Our Lord bless you always.
Yours sincerely in the Lord,
Thomas C. Collins,
Archbishop of Toronto.
